In the Catalan language, the native, popular proverbs are called refranys.

- To rain on wet ground. In a sense, similar to the English "When it rains, it pours"; however, its application also favorable events, such as when a wealthy person wins the lottery.

- Year of snow, year of God.
- A boca tancada, no hi entra mosca.

- S'atrapa abans a un mentider que a un coix.
- Literal translation: You'll catch a liar before you'll catch a cripple.
- Meaning: It's easier to discover a liar than to catch a cripple.
- Qui la fa, la paga.
- Who does, pays for it.
Pagant, sant Pere canta. Literally, if you pay, Saint Peter will sing. Similar to the English, "He who pays the piper calls the tune".
